started getting very popular in 1960's USA, because pre-war cars were
cheap and plentiful and so were used on the strip. They used large V8s
run on pump gas and ran high in order to fit both large wheels under the
stock rear bodywork and to allow a big engine up front without major body
alterations. The 1940-1941 Willys was a favourite to modify, but as time
went on an aerodyanamics played a bigger part, the cars sat lower. Hot
rodders have long used the Willys coupe but they've been most popular
in the 1980s and 1990s. This car is typical of the finest built, and uses
a separate box steel chassis with a custom double A-arm suspension at
the front and a four-bar located live axle at the rear. A blown Chrysler
Hemi engine provides power enough for 10-second quarter miles through
the 18.5-inch (470 mm) wide Mickey Thompson street/strip tyres.
