CARE TIPS
Battery Care
- Batteries make explosive gasses; do not smoke around them, and do
not use a match or other flame to check the fluid level. Keep metal
objects from touching the battery terminals when they're open, because
just a spark could cause a dangerous explosion that could spew acid
on you and blind or burn you.
- While checking or servicing your battery, make sure your engine is
off and stay away from radiator fan(s) that may turn on automatically,
even when the engine is off.
- To get the best service from your battery, keep the top of it clean
and dry and be certain the battery cables are always tightly fastened
to the battery terminals.
- If you see any corrosion on the battery or terminals, remove the cables
from the terminal(s) - positive first, then negative - and clean them
with a wire brush. You can neutralize the acid with a solution of baking
soda and water. Reconnect the cables in the same order when you're done
cleaning them, and apply a small quantity of grease to the top of each
battery terminal to help prevent corrosion.
- If your battery has a cover or shield, make sure it is re-installed
after service.
- Check your owner's manual for correct procedures when disconnecting
or installing a battery. (If you ever need a new battery, we recommend
a Genuine Mazda Battery, which is available through your dealer).
- For those vehicles not equipped with a maintenance-free battery, your
electrolyte level may be low. Remove the caps on the top and if the
battery liquid (acid) is not up to the bottom lip of the filler hole,
fill the cells with distilled water.
